Best of EV15
So here are my best of lists from my cycling adventure.
Best cycling
- Canal du Rhone au Rhin
- UNESCO Upper Middle Rhine Valley
- Around Deidesheim
The canal was just outright spectacular. Its unerring straightness was maybe a bit “boring” for lack of a better word, but this was peaceful, cute cafes in the lock houses, no traffic. Outstanding.
The Rhine Valley is just beautiful. You feel castled out after a while (at least I do) but you cannot deny the beauty.
And Deidesheim is a bit hillier but vineyards, sleepy villages, not a lot of traffic. Good riding
Best sleep
- PURS
- Erbprinz
- Ketschauer Hof
Everything about PURS was amazing but the bed was divine. Think W Bed (I am sure I will have a post about this the next time I am in a W Hotel) - and then make it comfier. Hard to imagine but just epic. Slept like a log.
Erbprinz was also a nice bed, and so was Ketschauer Hof. To be honest, with the exception of the Fährhaus in Koblenz, the beds were all rather nice, the right level of softness and support. So picking those two here on #2 and #3 is somewhat arbitrary.
Best Dinner
- PURS
- Sybillas Weinstube
- Papa Rhein
Read the post about the dinner at PURS. Just wow. Sybilla’s Weinstube is the “normal” restaurant in the Erbprinz and for me so much better than the “fine dining” sibling. And Papa Rhein’s restaurant was also very nice with a beautiful view over the Rhine.
Best Breakfast
- Maison Rouge
- Erbprinz
- PURS
So in this category PURS is in the top 3 but not at the top. For me that spot goes to Maison Rouge in Strasbourg. The selection, the atmosphere, brilliant. Erbprinz also impressed with the selection and quality of food. But overall, I have not had bad breakfast on this trip.
